Though not specifically stated, it can be inferred that Beowulf possesses something resembling super-human strength, as he didn’t struggle at all carrying Grendel’s head. With that ability, he uses nothing but brute force to defeat his foes. Batman, inversely, bears nothing close to a super power. He relies on his intelligence to construct his “bat-suit”, which in-turn aides him in defeating his adversary. It takes a truly great man to create his own super power.
If one were to look at Batman and Beowulf, they would almost undoubtedly drawn the conclusion that both are heroes. After closer examination however, Batman is the real hero and Beowulf is nothing more than a mercenary.
