EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Quality of working life refers to the relationship between a worker and his environment, adding the human dimension to the technical and economic dimensions within which work is normally viewed and designed. QWL relates to the facilities and conditions in which workers have to work.
The main purpose of doing this project is to understand what good quality work life means to employees in the retail sector and how it affects the organization. It speaks about how an organization should keep their employees happy by providing them quality work life. The study assess empirically on factors contributing to quality of work life in the retail sector and its impact. It helps to understand the expectations of the employees from the management with respect to the above concept. The scope also includes the importance attributed to the grievance settlement procedure as a part of Quality of Work Life by the employees.

Through a research which consists of questionnaire and discussions with employees, we can understand the views and opinions of the employees about quality of work life in the organization. By analyzing the survey findings, suggestions and recommendations are given.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The main purpose of doing this project is to understand what good quality work life means to employees in the retail sector and how it affects the organization. It speaks about how an organization should keep their employees happy by providing them quality work life. This project also gives an overview of how a Human Resource Department should function so as to retain the best of the company’s human resource its growth
The fast changing rapidly growing Indian retail industry faces a major challenge for any employer. As it relates to Quality of work life, the recent changes in retail trading conditions and working conditions has further aggravated the employee performance.

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

The objectives of the study are as follows:

* To understand the present working conditions.

* To identify the shortcomings in the motivational practices.

* To assess the motivation level of the employees.

To know and suggest relevant techniques which will improve the working conditions and performance.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY 
* The Scope of the study covers employees of all the departments and in Hypercity in order to understand their point of view with respect to Quality of Work Life.  

* The scope of the study also includes the response of the employees to the various measures taken by the management of Hypercity to make the employees comfortable at the work place.

* The scope is also widened to find out the expectations of the employees from the management with respect to the above concept.
 
* The scope also includes the importance attributed to the grievance settlement procedure as a part of Quality of Work Life by the employees.
