Since its inception for public use, the internet has grown to an enormous size. According to the United States Census close to 80 percent of individuals over 15 years of age are connected to the internet (US Census, 2012). 8 out of 10 people are using smart phone technology or have some type of connected device that allows them to update or browse online media. Changes and Future
Facebook is an evolving application. Changes to the format continue to aggravate users and even turn users away because of the quantity and intensity of the changes. Users usually forgive and return grumbling after learning and accepting the new change. Facebook has captured the individual user market and has turned its sights to business. Facebook has been allowing businesses to set up profiles and advertise and sell products from this profile. Facebook has also changed their algorithms to track what the user clicks on the most and customize the content of the page to match. Earlier Facebook would just post everything the friend posts to the user's page (Burnham, 2014). Facebook has embraced mobile technology by adapting the application for mobile devices.
Future advances for Facebook include spam awareness and ad synchronization. Google synchronizes ads based on the users browsing choices and Facebook is adopting this methodology with the timeline sharing choices (Burnham, 2014). Allowing businesses more choices in changing their profile page also is something new for Facebook. Facebook tends to be very protective on the style choices for their pages design.
