The Captains and Generals were lost, but it was here that he realized that the grass roots were the soldiers. Bernard M. Bass further developed Burns theory and introduced the Bass’ Transformational Leadership theory which consists of Transformational Leadership Intellectual Stimulation, Individualized Consideration, Inspirational Motivation and Idealized Influence. According to Bass, under Intellectual Stimulation leaders challenge the Status Quo and encourage creativity by finding new ways to do things. The third component is Inspirational Motivation, this concept states that leaders have to be clear about their vision. These leaders are able to articulate their vision and help followers obtain the same level of passion and motivation to fulfill goals. The leader radiates authority and impacts subordinates through a shared vision. Leaders inspire enormous pride and build a positive environment. In order for any leader, to be successful and paint a compelling picture about the future he needs followers to believe in his vision. The inspirational concept derived from the Transformational Leadership Model can only be achieved if people are aligned with the vision. When great transformational leaders want to drive performance they must create a climate where people are passionate about what they do. Passion alone will not be enough people have to take pride, and the result is performance. A leader must also express his ideals in order to make dramatic changes. Leaders must understand that visions and ideals inspire hopes and dreams about a better future.
