VALUE/S: High impact – Has an impact on people’s psychological well-being. Anyone who had been around the Town Hall area could feel paranoid or worried that they are carrying the disease.

ITEM 2: Woman victim of violent stabbing attack (British woman stabbed by a Mexican backpacker at Redfern)
VALUE/S: Normative breach – The audience is left outraged to hear that a man stabbed a woman in the neck during a sexual assault.
Close proximity – The attack happened in Redfern, so the Sydney audience are geographically close to the story.
INCREASE VALUES IF: If the woman had died in the attack or if the attacker had not been identified and arrested.
ITEM 3: Four police officers shot in drug operation (Four New Zealand police officers were shot while trying to make an arrest in a drug operation)
VALUE/S: Normative breach – The audience would be concerned to hear that people were brazen enough to shoot at police officers in an attempt to kill them.
Distant proximity – As the story occurred in New Zealand, it is culturally, socially and geographically distant from Sydney audiences.
Low scope and low severity – Only a few police officers were hospitalised, with 3 in a stable condition and one in a critical condition.
INCREASE VALUES IF: If more police officers were shot at or if an officer was killed.
