This can be shown through the way they define the product on their website, “… but it’s become the star of the Heinz® family of products. In the local diner, at the family table, at picnics, parks and barbecues, there’s one Ketchup at the top of everyone’s list.” But also another target market for this product would be restaurants, mainly fast-food restaurants.
D-Positioning Statement:
Heinz Ketchup is a grown not made tomato ketchup without any artificial thickeners, colorings, and preservatives. In the local diner, at the family table, at picnics, parks and barbecues, it is the only ketchup at the top of everyone’s list.
Product Strategies:
A-Product classification:
Heinz ketchup can be considered as both consumer and industrial product. It is a consumer product because it can be purchased by the ultimate consumers such as mothers or any other family member directly from retail outlets for personal use at home. On the other hand, restaurants are also using it; especially ones specialized in fast food like McDonalds and many others. So Heinz ketchup is a component of another product that is being sold to consumers, which makes it also an industrial good.
B- Product attributes:
Good Product attributes are one of the first things that attract consumers and they make the product distinct from other competitors. Heinz being the company that invented ketchup, and was responsible for almost all the achievements in this industry gives it an advantage over competitors. This also makes it easier for Heinz to differentiate itself in the market.
Heinz did not stop there but they kept working on their invention and improving it by adding many new attributes. Some of these attributes are, 100% natural grown tomato ketchup, first to use clear glass bottle, squeezable bottles and upside down bottles in addition they took into consideration green marketing so all of these bottles are fully recyclable. They produce ketchup in all sizes from single serve packs to 4Kg ketchup gallons. They also have a large product line that suits the market needs, they have hot ketchup, organic ketchup, low sugar ketchup, and they once produced colored ketchup for kids. Last but not least Heinz made sure that their product had a high value compared to these attributes by maintaining an affordable price.

C- Brand name:
Nowadays it is know that companies are willing to spend a large amount of money to come up with new product names. Good brand names help consumers distinguish the seller’s products. However this is not the case for Heinz Ketchup, since the company was established back in 1869 and back then manufacturers did not take brand naming as seriously. It is somehow obvious how the name was chosen; it was named after the family name of the founder Henry Heinz.
