10 Strategic Decisions of Operations Management

Operations Management adds value to the goods and services available to us. It is a process in which inputs are transformed into outputs. Specific measures should be taken in order to produce goods and services with the highest value; these measures are classified as the 10 Strategic Decisions of Operations Management. The 10 Strategic Decisions consist of the following: Design of goods and services, managing quality, process and capacity design, location strategy, layout strategy, human resources and job design, supply-chain management, inventory management, scheduling, and maintenance. In which, all of these decisions or steps are essential in creating goods and services with the best quality.

Various companies have adopted this practice, and continue to apply it in all of their production processes. The multinational company, Frito Lay is an example of one of the many companies benefiting from ...view middle of the document...

There are around 1,500 employees in charge of 12 production lines and 4 stations in a 1,000,000 sqft. factory. Each employee is given a number of hours to carry out specific duties to maintain the efficiency along the production lines.

Another company, Disney has also adapted the 10 Strategic Decisions in producing their latest Magic Band. Disney was able to apply a strong location strategy by giving consumers easy access to their Disney Land adventures and plans! Making this product available to consumers whenever and wherever. Due to the process and capacity design, the technology used to create the Magic Band is of the best quality and updated to the most recent software. Disney continues to design “out of this world” goods and services that are able to attract a large audience. All of the 10 Strategic Decisions are essential in innovating products with high value. It is also important to apply all aspect of Operations Management in order to stay a good competitor in the market.

Operations Management is something that can be applied in almost everything and anything directed to achieve customer satisfaction and sustainability. The De La Salle University Community should adopt the 10 Strategic Decisions of Operations Management in order to enhance the services offered to the people. In the past, the enlisting system of the university has had some glitches, which caused chaos among students and faculty members. Like Frito Lay and Disney, DLSU should put into action the 10 Strategic Decisions in order to provide good quality service to all their consumers, respectively faculty members and students. One effective decision would be the design of goods and services, which can be used to help determine the quality, sustainability and human resources needed to provide adequate service. Once the enlistment system is fixed, DLSU will be able to avoid the dissatisfaction of their faculty members and students, as well as add more value to the goods and services they are already providing. By applying the 10 Strategic Decisions, DLSU will also be able to compete with other universities not only in the country but also all over the world, giving its audience a look at their high quality services.
