Strategic Planning and the Nursing Process Paper
Strategic planning is a common practice and important in healthcare as it provides guidelines to make a decision for organization’s role and priorities. As hospital and healthcare industry face more regulatory challenges and financial pressure, strategic planning is needed for survival of an organization. This paper will discuss the similarities and differences between the strategic planning process and the nursing process. It will relate the nurse’s role in the nursing process to the role’s in the strategic planning process, and how nurses can be more involved in the strategic planning process as it relates to informatics needs in the ...view middle of the document...

The similarities between strategic planning process and nursing process are strategic planning mirrored the nursing process’ relation to assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation (Thomas, 1993). Strategic planning and nursing process require ongoing assessment and evaluation to meet their goals. Both strategic planning and nursing process collect subjective and objective data from observation and interview from their clients.
Nurse’s Role in Strategic Planning Process and Nursing Process
In the nursing process, nurses have a role to assess physical, psychological, sociocultural, spiritual, and well- being of patients. Nurses think systematically to make an appropriate decision for their patients based on patients’ care plan. Nurses also provide nursing care according to the care plan and evaluate the effectiveness of the plan. More specifically, it enables the nurse to gather objective and subjective data about the patient make a nursing diagnosis based on the data, plan the care, implement the care, evaluate the care and revise the care based on the results of evaluation (Huckabay, 2009). The relation of nurse’s role in the nursing process to the nurse’s role in the strategic planning process in informatics is they are both have a vision to improve and direct positive changes for their organization.
