Pick one business leader in your community and evaluate his performance against the leadership characteristics discussed in this unit. 1. Do you consider him/her a good strategic leader? 2. Why?
To be honest I don’t know a business leader in my community to evaluate his/her performance. The closest thing that came to mind it’s my manager where I work. I consider a good business leader. Based on what I read on chapter 1 there are a lot of things good managers should do in order to succeed the employee’s performance and keep motivated. The purpose of goals is to specify with precision what must be done if the company is to attain its mission or vision. The book also said managers need to be challenger your employees but need to be realistic. They give all employees an incentive to look for ways of improving the operations of an organization. If a goal is unrealistic in the challenges it poses, employees may give up; a goal that is too easy may fail to motivate managers and other employees, make sure give your workers specify a time period in which the goals should be achieved, when that is appropriate. Time constraints tell employees that success requires a goal to be attained by a given date, not after that date. Deadlines can inject a sense of urgency into goal attainment and act as a motivator. However, not all goals require time constraints. I consider him a good business leader.
Keep employees motivated.
To support my opinion why my manager is an excellent leader one of the quality is he makes the employees feel important and that they are part of the business in every way. He always listens to the advice his employees may provide or opinion regarding their daily job duties, also gives the opportunity to implant new things in their work station that where recommended by them employees. Our manager is giving a monthly update to the employees of how the company is doing overall regarding the business and gives pointers on how to continue completing the monthly goals. The cross training is another form of helping and providing new knowledge to the employees ; training them in different positions so they can learn other job duties is also a positive thing. A combination of these quality makes a manager a leader , but he should always make his or her employees feel part of the business with this you will have more productive employees in your company.
