“EtherChannel is a port link aggregation technology or port-channel architecture used primarily on Cisco switches. It allows grouping of several physical Ethernet links to create one logical Ethernet link for the purpose of providing fault-tolerance and high-speed links between switches, routers and servers” (Wikipedia). Both configurations involve logical interfaces.
•[pic]With Layer 3 interfaces, you manually create the logical interface by using the interface port-channel global configuration command.
•[pic]With Layer 2 interfaces, the logical interface is dynamically created.
•[pic]With both Layer 3 and 2 interfaces, you manually assign an interface to the EtherChannel by using the channel-group interface configuration command. This command binds the physical and logical ports together (Cisco Inc, 2013).
