3. WHAT STEPS THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD TAKE TO PROTECT WILDLIFE:
Legal protection has to be provide to wild animals against hunting and commercial exploitation. The Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 has been amended and made more stringent. The punishment for offences under the Act has been enhanced. The Act also provides for forfeiture of any equipment, vehicle or weapon that is used for committing wildlife offence(s). Protected Areas, viz., National Parks, Sanctuaries, Conservation Reservesand Community Reserves covering important wildlife habitats has be created all over the country. The State/Union Territory Governments has been request to strengthen the field formations and intensify patrolling in and around the Protected Areas. The Wildlife Crime Control Bureau has be set up to strengthen the enforcement of law for control of poaching and illegal trade in wildlife and its products. The periodic assessments carried out in respect of prioritized species, rhinoceros and lion, have indicated improvement in their population status. The Ministry of Environment & Forests also provides financial assistance to State Governments for undertaking “Recovery Programmes for saving criticallyendangered species” as a component of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of ‘Integrated Development of Wildlife Habitats’.
Wildlife conservation isn't hard. There are a number of ways to help from getting out there and getting hands on to simply donating money in support of an organization's work. Both are equally as noble and equally as necessary in the effort to save our planet and its wildlife. Don't just sit there and watch anymore, do something to change the world. Even the smallest step helps more than nothing at all.
