Role Of Government In The U.S

549 words - 3 pages

I am a nurse and I run my own home healthcare business, and I believe that healthcare is an indispensable part of our society. I believe that healthcare is a right because all people should have access to healthcare and the stability and security that comes from knowing you will be treated if you are in need. Healthcare is a right because all people should have access to healthcare and security in knowing they can be healed. It could be deduced from all evidence gathered that the United States is blessed far above all the countries in the world offering Universal Healthcare System established to take care of the health care needs of their citizens. I believe United States government should be directly involved in all facets of healthcare services, including health promotion, illness prevention, diagnosis and treatment, ...view middle of the document...

Fully 13% of all jobs in America are in the health sector. Each of us spends a sizable share of our income on the health care we need. We spend this money through taxes, which support a good share of the health enterprise, through foregone wages used by our employers to pay for health insurance, and sizable out-of- pocket health care expenses for which each of us is responsible”; (Kovner and Knickman, 2011, p.158). The authors went further to highlight the obvious fact of health care in America saying “Adequate family incomes, high-quality educational opportunities, and being socially connected are all key factors that predict the health of a given person.” What is the faith of the poor getting quality health care to keep them alive when general hospitals owned by governments charge them excessive premiums, co-pays and deductibles even with available compulsory health care insurance? Primary care physicians are now rejecting patients because of the cut in payment to providers while HMO companies get rich by pocketing almost all the payments for care and pay a little portion at will to the actual health care providers. Forbes magazine backed up this fact in its February 27, 2015, article “Docs Don’t Need Fixing-- - Medicare Does”; This article explains the yearly Medicare cuts to physicians for services and what will happen if this issue is not corrected. Based on the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimate, not everybody would be covered by the Affordable Care Act come 2019. What would happen to the uninsured? They deserve life and happiness. Government need to act now, to avoid unnecessary death of the poor for the good of all Americans.
