Gender Discrimination and the Role of Education to Overcome it
Discrimination is a growing problem in each and every society and it is deep rooted in the culture of many societies, which affect the everyday working life in innumerable ways. Discrimination is a well established phenomenon, which poses a great threat to economies, organizations and individuals. There is a wide range of knowledge which helps us understand the basics of discrimination and which provides us with the required data to interpret different cases of discrimination.
It is because the Pakistani society as a whole is not yet ready to recognize the basic rights of the women and to take them on board to develop the society. The genesis of gender discrimination exists in the very fabrics of the conservative Pakistani society. There are many such cases of discrimination which are found in the educational institutions as well as in the work place. This practice still continues in Pakistan and with the growing radicalism it seems as if gender discrimination will exist longer in the society.
1.2 Specific Overview
To eliminate discrimination there must be evidences of this practice. This discrimination is strongly visible in all the careers of women managers. A wide data shows that at the lower level management there are many women managers whereas in the top level management there are only a few women managers. Their proportion in the top level management of the organizations decline due to discrimination related issues.
Instead of educating and creating awareness among the students and teachers about gender discrimination, the educational institutes are less interested in addressing this issue. In today’s world no nation can progress until their women are empowered and there remains no sign of discrimination and inequality to the most vulnerable strata of the society.
Gender discrimination is a common practice in Pakistan. As mentioned earlier, it is deep rooted in all social institutions such as the family, schools, colleges, universities and even in the workplace. This practice begins from each and every home. Boys are given much importance and the girls are always subjected to discrimination. To remove this difference and to end up this practice, there is a dire need to educate the youth and to create awareness in the society about the gender equality.
The present status of the Pakistani women who are recently serving in the public and private organizations is known with the help of the existing data. The problems being faced by these women and all that which leads to gender discrimination in the workplace has already been studied by researchers and there is a wide range of data explaining this behavior. To protect the women at workplace, the graduate students both male and female must be educated in such a way that puts an end to gender discrimination. As the graduate students contribute more to the markets, so they must not have such a behavior which promotes gender discrimination. For this purpose, all the Master level students need to undergo a training in which the basic rights of both men and women are acknowledged and the participants are trained to work together without having any sense of gender discrimination.
