Problem Statement
Only a few studies in nursing research provide some kind of study that looks into experiences of patients who choose to undergo bariatric surgical procedures or investigation. Within the growth of science in bariatric nursing, there is that need of information to support both the patient that is receiving the care and the physician that is providing the care and the support. The number of bariatric surgery being perform is increasing with the growing increase in obesity. Thus our duties as nurses is to be educated on how to manage this patient population well as we prepare for their plan of care, management implication, discharge and change in lifestyle teaching. The study is intended to explore the experiences of women from the moment they receive the surgery up to 18-24 months after the surgical intervention. Questions like how was your experience the moment after the surgical procedure? After being discharge home how was your experience? 6 months after the surgery how was your experience? With respect to what to expect and the changes leading to after the surgery, can you say you received enough teaching and counseling? Were they any implications of the surgery and how were these handle? If you were asked to go through the procedure again will you? Were asked at different times of the patient recovery level. The research question and purpose are related to the problem since it list the real personal experience of the patients that went through the surgical intervention and their life 6 months and beyond the procedure. The only way to get a subjective view of what the patient experience was by using the qualitative study method.
Literature Review
The author cited valid qualitative and quantitative studies relevant to the focus of the studies together with the editorial board reviewed, expert peer reviewed articles, and double blind peer reviewed articles.
