When I was younger my heart was set on helping my family and other people out of their misery. My childhood was difficult and life was hard. Because of my blessed life I had an opportunity to enjoy a stable family life. I believe I would enjoy being involved with this organization. Save the Children (2010) organization mission statement as stated in their website is:
To create lasting, positive change in the lives of children in need in the U.S. and around the world. Their priorities are to ensure that children in need grow up protected and safe, educated, healthy and well-nourished, and able to thrive in economically secure households. The Philippine economy relies heavily on human labor. In the Philippines jobs are hard to find unless they know somebody in the government sector. Because of poverty people often lose some of their moral fiber over time.
Professional Knowledge and Abilities 3
Parents are sometimes forced to look jobs outside the country. Their children are left behind with Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles and lose the guidance of a parent. Some family and children are forced into child labor, prostitution and selling illegal drugs. There’s a quote by Marian Wright Edelman that states” if we don't stand up for children, then we don't stand for much”.
I will help other people to improve their lives one step at a time. It breaks my heart knowing that I am enjoying some luxury whereas other children are starving and no place to call home. Save the children organization keeps me abreast of what is going on and helps me appreciate what I have. This enables me to keep my feet on the ground and strive hard to achieve better for myself.
By actively participating with the associations outreach program it enhances my social skills through interacting with other people. I will be able to learn how to conduct and organize future fundraisers. The organization is down to the core which people are treated as human beings. I am an interpersonal type of character; this is beneficial to me and those around me.
Volunteering is America’s greatest asset. This helps motivate me to work hard to pursue a higher goal and to do the best I can. Moreover, it helps me to improve my leadership skills by improving knowledge and abilities that broaden my areas of expertise. It will enable me to step up, take the lead, delegate, and make the right decision. I believe in myself, hard work and dedication. With the guidance and help of Save the Children Organization I could accomplish my dream of helping others out of their misery.
