Personal responsibility is excepting the consequences for the actions taken in personal life and in academic pursuits. Hard work does not always produce instant gratification, but in the long run the results of the time and effort put forward will show in the end. Learning to use time management, routine, and sacrifice of personal enjoyment can help a person reach academic success. If someone wants success bad enough, they will put forth the actions needed to succeed then they should reach their goal without a problem.
Personal responsibility can bring a person college success in many different ways. One ...view middle of the document...
These students are self-dedicated and know what they have to do to reach their goals. This action is taking on personal responsibility by working hard and dedicating time to academic success.
This brings up the use of time management. In the Journal of Interactive Online Learning, Carolyn Hart (2012), writes,
The flexibility of an online course is very attractive to students trying to balance work and family demands. The asynchronous format allows control over one's schedule and course work can be accomplished with less disruption to work and family schedules. Persistent students tend to have better study habits and complete work in a timely
Setting a routine is a smart way to handle the time one has to study and do home work. When a routine is set up, it is very important to follow the plans made and stick to them. As said by Siriwhong & Wichithaleardphong (2011), "A person without planning is like a person lacking a reminder to help him finish his work" (p. 152). Routines will create room for a personal and professional life and also for school. The ability to handle both should go smoother creating time to do assignments and attend class with total efficiency. If a person learns to accomplish schooling while having a family and work, then he will learn very quickly what is of importance in their lives.
Personal sacrifice is another great example of personal responsibility. Focusing on school instead of personal enjoyment is very important. Sometimes this can be very hard to do, as it is not always fun to put off personal plans such as vacations and going out, but it can benefit a person in the long run, which is a plus. Too often, it becomes easier to give up than pursue goals because personal enjoyment becomes more interesting. Carolyn Hart (2012), states that "oftentimes, the decision to drop a course is unrelated to knowledge and is more a reflection of a lack of persistence" (p. 19). Balancing work, life, and school is another thing that must be done. Personal responsibilities are as important as school responsibilities. A person must learn to do both if he wants a successful personal and professional life as well as a successful college career. It is very possible to effectively balance everything you have; it works right along with routine and time management. It may take time and persistence but is a valuable thing to learn.
