So many people these days experience health issues in regard to a heart condition, depression, or being overweight. With so many different exercise programs available, individuals don’t know which one to turn to for their need to improve these problems. Aerobics is a better form of exercise than weight training because it’s better for your heart, improves your mood, and helps you lose weight.

Having blood pressure that is too high is dangerous because it will make the heart work way too hard. (National Institute of Health, 2003) When starting aerobics, or any exercise program, it is recommended to start out slow. There are beginning classes that can be started out with (Daily Press, 1995). Studies have shown that doing weight training can produce stiffening of the arteries. This particular aliment can be associated with high blood pressure (About.com, 2010).
Doing aerobic exercise can help you lose weight. Aerobic activity will cause a person’s body to create a calorie deficit. Bodies will burn more calories than it takes in (Weight loss resources, 2013). When doing such a good workout like aerobics, the body burns large amounts of calories and sheds those extra pounds. In one study, scientists found that doing only weight training built muscle, but didn’t lose any fat or pounds (CNN Health, 2012).
Aerobic activity will help boost the body’s metabolism. After each session of doing aerobic activity, it can cause the body to boost metabolism for hours or up to several days after completing the session (Livestrong.com, 2011). A higher metabolism is much more efficient than a lower one for burning calories (Mayo Clinic, 2011).
When doing aerobic exercise the mood can be greatly improved because while exercising your brain will release endorphins, adrenaline, serotonin, and dopamine. These are your bodies feel good chemicals. This not only lifts mood, but it also improves emotions. Exercising the body makes a person feel more at ease, relaxed and feel calm. There are studies that have shown aerobic activity can improve depression in individuals when they do not get relief from depression medications (Longevity, 2007). One study from 2005 shows that just 15 minutes of aerobic exercise two to three times per week can cause a significant reduction in anxiety. Increase that workout to three to five times a week and fatigue can be reduced by 50%. The studies have not shown this as of yet from strength training (Women’s Health, 2012).
Improving self-esteem is an excellent benefit of losing weight from doing aerobics. The confidence that can be achieved about appearance can be astounding. Clothes will fit better, and compliments will be heard from everyone. There will be a greater appreciation on what the body can do. All the things that seemed so impossible will become possible once again. The more self-esteem a person achieves will help to make better choices to eat healthier. Scientists have come to the conclusion that the effect of aerobic exercise makes an individual have higher confidence levels because they have a sense of accomplishment every time they are finished with their workout (Women’s Health, 2012).
