Globalisation is part and parcel of today’s business sphere. Globalisation can be viewed as the growth in
3mobility across frontiers– the mobility of goods and commodities; information; communications products and services; and people (Robins 2000). Many organisations have begun to take globalisation seriously, either in terms of their target markets or production, as they realise that their sustainability cannot be completely ensured if new ways of doing business are not sought. Internationalisation can be viewed as the increase in interaction and interdependence of trade and services between people in different countries (Scholte 2005), and indeed, this has been a major driver in the growth of international business in recent years.

This essay will focus on Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft (Volkswagen Group – VAG) and the internationalisation processes it has undertaken, the impact of these actions and the lessons that can be internalised and learnt from these experiences. VAG is currently the world’s third biggest carmaker.
