In this competitive era, everyone is eager to gain something. Positive attitude on satisfying desire can push one to achieve one’s dream, while radical and unsatisfied desire will ruin one’s humanity and take away one’s reason. “a contented mind is a continual feast” is a good suggestion about how to control ambitious. In Lord of the flies, it is their different attitudes toward how to satisfy their desire make them have different fates.

Different, he realizes that with great power come great responsibilities. However in the wake of desire changes, his ambitions expand and lead him to forget his initial purpose. When Jack starts his hunting project, more and more starving kids choose Jack as their leader for the sake of food. Finding out he is losing his authority, Ralph becomes jealous and upset, which pushes him to lose identity. He begins to fear to make demands because he worries they will make the rest of boys leave him. He even fears to blow conch gradually, in case no one comes. In the last chapter, he holds the branch and attempts to fight with hunters and escape from that horrible jungle. In conclusion, action is controlled by desire, and desire is controlled by brain, so what do you want to harvest at last is up to you own.
Golding gives every main character a belief and everyone has different attitude to aspire after to truth. Simon is a vulnerable presence who is neglected sometimes. He reveals a kindness that no one else seems to possess. He finds for littluns the fruit others cannot reach(56), and he stops others blaming Piggy(42). Compare to his soft personalities, he is dedicated for pursuing truth. He is the first to suggest that there is no beast, “ maybe it’s only us”(89).
