Background of the Study

Miagao is a first class municipality located at the southwestern part of the Province of Iloilo in the island of Panay. It is one of the 7 towns comprising the First Congressional District of Iloilo with 119 barangays, an area of 15,696 hectares and a population of 64,545. It has thirty one public and three private elementary schools, eight public and three private secondary schools, and two Higher Education Institutions.
All these schools together with the Local Government Unit are implementers of RA 9003 which is known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. This Law was crafted in order to protect public health and solve the problem of looming garbage in our country, and that includes Municipality of Miagao.

METHODS/PROCEDURES

Pursuant to the relevant provisions of RA 7160, known as the Local Government Code, Local Government Units are primarily responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the provisions of this Act within their jurisdiction.
