Leadership Approach
There have been a lot of different studies conducted to identify the different forms of leadership. Leadership traits can be broken down into five different areas from trait approach, behavior approach, power-influence approach, situational approach, and integrative approach. I always use the example of installing power to my soldiers. During my career I had a chance to hold a lot of different position, but the one that stands out is my time as an Observer Controller working with the National Guard in the state of Mississippi. When I received my order I was slotted as the Senior Fire Control NCO. After a few months I determine we need to change the way we trained the unit and also the way we document their training. Needless to say this didn’t go very well because I was the new guy and no one want to hear my ideas? At the beginning of my fourth month I was assigned to serve as the Operation Sergeant. I know serving in that position I could make the sweeping change that was need. While holding that position I would have more influence on the unit policy’s and training requirement. My first task was to revamp the unit training packets. The training packet they had been grossly outdated and needed to be brought into the twenty-first century. I took the next two weeks to develop a new training packet, which included all the newest weapon system and grading standard. With my new position it would have been easy to created the document than force it down to everyone. But that would not be the best...
