Its interesting cultural diversity can be largely attributed to the country's long and on-going interaction with the outside world and colonial rule by the Portuguese, Dutch and the British. Consequently, the evolution of the country into a cultural melting pot is evident in the unique blend of religions, socio-cultural activities and traditions, dressing, languages and food. The country achieved independence on August 31, 1957 as The Federation of Malaya and with the subsequent entry of Sabah and Sarawak in 1963, Malaysia was formed. Kuala Lumpur is the federal capital of Malaysia. Putrajaya is the seat of government. Malaysia is constitutional monarchy and follow the bicameral system legislative system, adopting democratic parlimentary. Malaysia Head of State is the Yang Dipertuan Agong and the head government is the Prime Minister. Malaysia is divided into two part, West Malaysia (11 in peninsular) and East Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak), separated by South China Sea. Comprising two part, Malaysia possesses many beautiful beaches along peninsula coastline, over 200 island and coves and brilliant tropical sunshine. Malaysia is hot and humid all year round. The Malays are the largest ethnic group more than 50%, Chienese 25%, Indian 10% population and other ethnic such as orang Asli. ln Sabah and Sarawak there are myriad of indigenous ethnic such as Iban, Bidayuh, Orang Ulu, Kadazan ,Dusun, Bajau and Murut. All Malays are considered Muslim. They are muslims, speak Bahasa and are largely responsible for the political fortunes of the country. Bahasa Malaysia is National language but English also widely spoken especially by non Muslim. Muslim celebrate Muslim Holiday and most festival hari Raya Puasa, Hari Raya Haji, Awal Muharram and Maulidur Rasul. Chinese in Malaysia are Buddhist and Toist follower and speak Hokkein, Hakka and Cantonese. They are also dominant in the business community. Malaysian Chinese is celebrate Chinese New Year which this festival last for fifteen day and ends with Chap Goh Meh. Malaysian Indian are mainly Hindu Tamils from southern India, they speak Tamil, Malayalam and some Hindi, and live mainly in the larger towns on the west coast of the peninsula Malaysia. Buddhist celebrated Wesak, Hindus celebrate Deepavali while Thaipusam is a celebration in which pilgrims from all over the country flock to Batu Caves.
