It is estimated that roughly 500,000 juveniles are brought to detention centers every single year, which means that is 26,000 children being stripped from their families every day for a misuse of judgment, according to the Justice Policy Institute. To make these matters worse, it was also researched that as many as 70 percent of these crimes were not even violent misdemeanors which includes offenses that did not involve a weapon or cause injury to another person. The deterrence of juvenile incarceration can hold a plethora of benefits to the community, but it is important for communities to first understand how this is feasible. Second of all, another important component in successful and positive life choices in impressionable youths is recreation. It can often be a great concern for parents who work constantly what their children are doing before they get home every night. Recreational activities are a great way for today’s youth to meet new friends and it is also “…an opportunity to interact in a safe social environment” (lawyershop.com). Great escapes can include girl scouts, boy scouts, church youth groups, and volunteer groups. These types of social events can help reduce depression because there is always fun activities keeping a positive outlook on life, they can relieve stressors at home as a great escape from a rough home environment, and can improve a child’s self-esteem by making them feel as if they are making a difference in people’s lives for a satisfaction in their day to day life.
Third of all, bullying prevention programs can also be a great preventive tool for adolescents to steer clear of illegal activity. Since these educational events were established in elementary and middle schools, it has been a great way to leave an impressionable difference in the minds of children who would have otherwise had bullying problems later on in life. “Once teachers and administrators have learned about how and where bullying occurs at their school, they set up class rules and facilitate discussions that address the problem” (Lawyershop.com). As this website states, if the teachers and faculty are involved in the prevention of victimized students, this can create substantial improvements in the classroom’s social atmosphere with more positive outlooks on schoolwork and school in general by the students.
