Is God Good ? Essay

1287 words - 6 pages

1) Explain what is meant in the bible by the phrase ‘God is good’. (25marks)

Firstly, we must understand what is meant by ‘good’ well good is that which is morally right. With God it is said in the bible “oh give thanks to the lord, for he is good; for His loving-kindness is everlasting (Psalms), another way is the 10 commandments which shows God setting the standard of what is morally right and wrong. Another way of showing of how ‘God is good’ is by creation in genesis 1 and 2 which shows God either creating the world or how he is crafting everything, also in the bible of how God has preformed miracles and in todays society.
In the bible there are many passages, which say ‘God is ...view middle of the document...

So I thought God forgives all even killing.
There are many examples in the bible that we should follow the Ten Commandments such as “For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because not under law but under grace? Certainly not! (Romans)" So this is saying that we owe God for creating us so that we must follow his saying and his laws. Another quote from Romans is that "Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish it.” So in other words is that we accept them.

The story of creation is one of God’s greatest goodness because he is shown that he is the creator of everything. The Bible opens with the words “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1), and it closes with “I saw a new heaven and a new earth”. This shows that God was the creator of the world and which is the greatest goodness. There are many ways in the bible which shows either how God made everything or how Jesus explains it was God for example For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created by Him and for Him”. This shows that God is the creator of everything because Jesus was the Son of God. The creation story is one of the greatest parts of the bible because it explains how God made life and everything around it.
Another way to show that ‘God is good’ is by the word miracles, what is a miracle? Well it is a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is considered to be divine. There are many examples of miracles in the bible and in our society, for example in the bible Jesus healed a paralyzed man “Seeing how much faith they had, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My son, your sins are forgiven. While they all watched, the man got up, picked up his mat, and hurried away. They were all completely amazed and paralyzed God; saying, “We have never seen anything like this!” this shows God as good because Jesus is part of God because he is the Son of God (Mark). Another example would be when Jesus cured two blind people “Then Jesus toughed their eyes and said, “Let it happen, then, just as you believe! “Their sight was restored. Jesus spoke sternly to them, “Don’t tell this to anyone!” However they did....
