The Hindu religion is built upon a set of beliefs and traditions that have evolved over a long period of time. According to Ygoy, 2005, “Hinduism is the oldest surviving religion of the world, where its origin took place before history was ever recorded. It is called as ‘Sanatana Dharma’ i.e. it is eternal religion and spontaneous by nature. It has no founder to give credit to its discovery nor does anyone know its date of origin.” The concepts for the religion is the thinking or believing in the ultimate reality, believing in a universal soul. The religion teaches that all beings will go through a birth and rebirth process that which Karma, will decide in how the rebirth will take effect and what form the rebirth will result in. They believe in a “God” that is can not be seen, does not have any particular form and is infinite in life. The “God” can take many forms, just depending on individual interpretations of different aspects of the religion.
The cultural and societal influences that have made the religion so important to the originating region are vast. The people of the Indian Subcontinent were racially, religiously, ethnically, and culturally diverse. The acceptance of the faith Hinduism created a unifying influence and philosophy that established peace and cooperation. Hinduism, as a unifying belief system, is vital to the people of India. They have reason and beliefs that they need to keep passing on generation to generation, to ensure that it will continue to grow and not be extinguished by disbelievers. This caste system, made them stay more disciplined and it maintained it's state, as it was, and it is vital for the region as culture can be described as mainly differences in views.
