Immigration is a very touchy subject in this country. While this country was based and founded on immigration, and known as the melting pot of the world. However, times are changing. Depending which side of the political isle you stand, those on the Left feel that borders should be wide open; anyone who wants to come to this country and live is free to do so. While those on the Right feel that if you which to live in this country you must follow our laws and processes; follow the Constitution and do it the right way.
For over 25 years immigration reform has been at hot topic in Washington, starting with President George W. Bush supporting the guest worker proposal. In 1986, the Immigration Reform and Control Act made it illegal to hire illegal immigrants; however, this law left the system with-out a key element; a workable non-immigrant visa system program ...view middle of the document...
One of the consequences, unfortunately, is that it is easier for the employer to take advantage of the situation and exploit this. Pay the less, no benefits, and ignore safety laws.)
Changes needed; this topic is not an easy one for me as I do find it very touchy, I am not a politically correct individual. I do however try to keep and respect others opinions as this is one of our basic fundamental and Constitutional rights. Until laws are changed to reflect otherwise, if a person enters this country illegally they have broken the law, point blank. While the myth is immigrates are taking jobs away from Americans because Americans refuse to take the lower paying jobs, well that is our fault. We have Americans out of workers, Veterans out of work. I will not go on a tangent on this.
Right now if someone wants to come to this country to live work and be an American citizen, I welcome that, do it legally, that is all I ask. If the laws and the constitution changes stating otherwise, I will support the fundamental right afforded to them. Everyone in the world has a right to be here and be a citizen, do it legally. Try and enter another country illegally and see what happens.
