Gap Analysis: Riordan Manufacturing

Riordan Manufacturing is faced with some issues, challenges and opportunities to increase their sales and profitability, improve employee satisfaction, and improve their customer relationships in an effort to help them remain competitive in the marketplace. In this research an analysis will be conducted to evaluate the situations that face Riordan Manufacturing. This analysis will identify the issues and opportunities, explore the stakeholders’ perspectives, and review the problem and the end state goals. Riordan has some challenges that need to be addressed before their strategic plan can become a success. The biggest challenge faced by Riordan Manufacturing is the ability to increase their employee satisfaction and motivate staff to perform so that Riordan Manufacturing can meet their strategic goals.
To meet their strategic goals Riordan Manufacturing has some issues and opportunities that must be identified to help them come up with a solution to their problem. The first issue is the declining sales and profits at Riordan Manufacturing have caused company to change it sales processes in order to adopt at more customer-relationship management system. This system allows customers to be serviced by a sales team as opposed to an individual sales person. As a result of the changes that have been implemented by Riordan Manufacturing’s leadership team they have seen a decline in employee retention and employee satisfaction. The opportunity is as a result of the strategic change the in the sales department Riordan Manufacturing has an opportunity to improve sales and increase customer satisfaction. To improve sales Riordan will need to increase its employee satisfaction. One way Riordan Manufacturing can increase employee satisfaction is by using Motivation. “Motivation is the willingness to exert effort in a particular way” (Dreher &Dougherty, 2001, p. 27). Another way for Riordan to increase employee satisfaction is by enhancing performance motivation
“Performance Motivation is practices that encourage employee motivation to perform important behaviors” (Dreher &Dougherty, 2001, p. 37). Employee motivation is an important aspect of any organization. Motivation helps to encourage and inspire employees to produce desired results. The employees at Riordan Manufacturing are not motivated because of the new changes and because of their current compensation and benefits plan. The lack of motivation by employee is because the compensation plan has not been not been updated to reflect team based incentives, lack of recognition for job performance, training and development, and lack of upward mobility for employees. This lack of motivation has resulted in decrease in employee retention and employee satisfaction. The next issue at Riordan Manufacturing is an employee survey recently revealed that employees decrease in job satisfaction is due to the employees’ compensation and benefits plan. An opportunity for the management team at Riordan Manufacturing is Riordan Manufacturing has opportunity to review its compensation and benefits plan to ensure that they are competitive in the marketplace and to possibly make change that will help to improve employee satisfaction. One way for Riordan to accomplish this goal is the use of pay surveys for comparative market data.
