Rubber-Band Powered Altoids Boat
Teacher: Mrs. Gainous
The purpose of my project was to find out which rubber-band powered Altoids boat would work better? My project consisted of two boats one small boat and one large boat.
I predict that the small boat will propel the longest time. My prediction is that the small boat will work better because of less weight and size difference. My prediction of the large boat is that it will not work out due to size and weight.

The regular Altoid tin during the 3 trials propelled for 11 ½ inches. My discovery after completing the 3 trials on each Altoid tin boat was that the regular Altoid tin boat worked better than the small Altoid tin boat.
Conclusion: During the process of doing my experiment I learned that not always is less weight going to work better. I also learned that the weight being more rather than less can result in better results during the Altoid tin boat experiment. I also learned that a hypothesis will not always be right. The entire experiment of making the self propelled boat was a great discovery to see how the boat propelled through the water.
Independent Variable (What I would change):
After performing my experiment I would change the type of boat. I would have used a boat of Styrofoam boat instead of the Altoid tin. I think doing the experiment with a Styrofoam material for the boat I might get better results.
Dependent Variable (What I observed):
I observed during my experiment that the Altoid tin did float and propel in the water. During my observation I also observed that the different size boats played a big part in the distance of the boat.
