Simula taong 2012 hanggang ngayong 2013, tanyag na tanyag ang  salitang "selfie", na tumutukoy sa mga larawan na kadalang pinopost nang solo.

Ang papel pananaliksik na ito ay may layong mabigyang pansin ang mga opinyon ng mga mag-aaral sa unang taon – seksiyon 31 ng Batsilyer ng Pagtutuos sa Politeknikong Unibersidad ng Pilipinas, Mabini Campus, Sta. Mesa, Manila sa mga dahilan kung bakit nahuhumaling ang mga kabataang mag-aaral na katulad nila sa pagseselfie. Nais ring maipaalam ng mananaliksik ang mga positibo at negatibong epekto ng pagseselfie sa kanilang pamumuhay.
1. Anu-ano ang mga dahilan kung bakit naaakit mag-selfie ang isang kabataang indibidwal?
2. Anu-ano ang mga positibong epekto ng pagseselfie sa iyong sarili?
3. Anu-ano naman ang mga negatibong epekto ang kaakibat ng sobrang pagkahilig sa pagseselfie?
4. At kung ano ang mas nangingibabaw sa kanila, ang positibong epekto nito o ang negatibo?
Ang pag-aaral na ito ay nakabase lamang sa mga opinyon ng mga indibidwal na napili upang sumagot ng sarbey kwestyoneyr na inihanda ng mananaliksik tungkol sa mga dahilan kung bakit naaakit ang mga indibidwal sa pagseselfie, ang mga positibo at negatibong epekto nito sa mismong taong sumiselfie at kanilang sariling pananaw kapag sila ay nakakakita ng taong nagseselfie.
Ang mananaliksik ay pumili ng tatlongpu’t anim (36) na respondente na nakatakdang sumagot sa sarbey at ang mga respondenteng ito ay nagmula sa seksyon 31 sa unang taon ng Batsilyer ng Pagtutuos sa Politeknikong Unibersidad ng Pilipinas, Mabini Campus, Sta. Mesa, Manila, Taong Pampanuruan 2013-2014.
Ang pag-aaral na ito ay iniugnay sa mga teorya upang mapagpatibaya ang mga resulta at upang mas maging batayan ng mananaliksik sa pagbuo ng buong papel pananaliksik.
Sa Maslow’s Hierarchy Of Needs, kinakailangan ng isang tao ang sosyal na pangangailangan (social needs), kailangan ng isang tao ang pagmamahal, at matanggap sila ng kanilang pamilya, kaibigan at mga katrabaho kung ano at sino sila sapagkat sila ay nasa isang mundong kinagagalawan lamang (McLeod, 2007), sa tulong ng Selfie o Pagseselfie, nagkakaroon ng sosyal na koneksyon ang isang indibidwal sa mga ito sa tulong ng mga litrato. May relasyong nabubuo malayo man o malapit ang mga taong nakakakita nito. Kaugnay rin dito, maliban sa pangangailangang sosyal, ayon sa Self-Verification Theory, isang teorya na nakapokus sa kagustuhan ng tao na makilala at at maintindihan ng mga tao. Karamihan ng mga indibidwal ay gustong maging in o laging sunod sa uso, dahil sa pakiramdam nila at pag-aakala ay sila ay matatanggap at makikila kung gagawin at sasabay sila sa kung ano ang patok at sikat (Swann, 1983). Kakabit din ng teoryang ito ang kakayahang maiba ang personalidad ng isang tao sa pamamagitan ng interaksyon sa isang indibidwal.
