BRIEF OVERVIEW
The word “biotechnology” has become a buzz word and has increased its value and implication in last two decades, which is just exceptional. Possibility and potential behind this kind of awareness towards biotechnology is due to its unlimited prospective to serve and assist humanity. To date biotechnology has made our life in many aspects like health, food and animals, environment also using Bio-fuels instead of fossil fuels to meet the need of increasing population. In easy terms life starts with biotechnologically may be using tooth-paste, to driving car based on Bio-fuels or using medicine to keep healthy or to control chronic disease like diabetes to make life better (Sutton, 2009). The term biotechnology was introduced by Karl Erkey, a Hungarian Engineer in 1919.It was just the start of biotechnology afterward it was defined differently by different scientists (Rockman, 2004). Since then, there has been number of life science entrepreneurs in biotechnology field either from the background of academic institution, or a bioengineer from the life science industry, or a business person from life science industry or a core group of people who spin off from another life science company within the industry.
Background: Dr. Christian Tidona is a successive biotechnology entrepreneur, a management coach and a managing director of BioRN Cluster Management GmbH and BioRN Network e.V. in Heidelberg. In the year 1995, he did Diploma in biology from Ruprecht Karl University of Heidelberg. After finishing diploma, he completed his doctorate degree in molecular biology and virology from the University of Heidelberg in 1999 at the age of 28. After experiencing as a founder, management coach and managing director in several biotech companies such as Multimetrix (Regensburg), Microbionix (Neuried), Cytonet (Weinheim) and Heidelberg Institute for Stem Cell Technology and Experimental Medicine (HI‐STEM) he was involved in the development of a latest economic development strategy for the Biotech Cluster Rhine‐Neckar (BioRN). Following this strategy the BioRN cluster was recognized as one of the five most significant high‐tech regions in Germany. It received a awarded of 40 million Euro grant from the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF).
