The man

The man with the hat sat exactly opposite to the empty bench, leaning with his hands on his cane and stared right through me. He smelled of vinegar. Only just a little bit, but then caught myself this sour smell like an ominous, biting shaft. I ignored it, as best they could, but it astounded me.
After a few minutes, a single black fly sat on the label of his greasy jacket. A short time later, there were already two. They ran up to him and crawled into his face, but he did not seem to notice. More flies were added, crawled over his nose, his cheeks, his lips, but he showed no reaction. It was not long, and they crept into his nostrils, in his eye and in his ears. He just sat there and looked like the day before indifferent through me. The fly took the occasion to be a little bolder. Increasingly, they were crawling now in his ears and in his nose. His face betrayed not even a twitch, as tentatively crawled the first maggots on his forehead. Dense clouds of flies buzzed around him now. His clothes were completely covered with flies. The man in the hat sat there motionless, but the black mass on it moved continuously. Between all the flies swarmed now by countless white grubs. Due to the constant movement, it looked as if its surface would flow. After a few hours, I had the impression that he would hardly be noticeably smaller. At first, I thought it was imagination or an optical illusion, but then I was sure. Its proportions remained, but his figure shrank, so that his clothes were immediately much too big and already survived at the arms and legs. It was as if he would evaporate among the entire fly gradually, the flies do not have any less. In the early afternoon, he had already shrunk so much that he could no longer rely on the walking stick his hands. His feet dangled above the floor. The now much too big hat now stood him head over heels. In the evening he finally looked like a little ragged dwarf and emerged as a slight wind, I decided to go.
Sunday I got up early. I got ready, had breakfast and went out of the house at noon. I came to my bench and sat down. Opposite lay a stray hat, a walking stick and a suit on the bench, a pair of worn men's shoes were before. I was alone and looked perplexed at the gray sky. A while later, an elderly man came and sat on the bench opposite. A sour smell came from him, and I saw a fly on his hand ...
