The ADN program is focused on the technical aspect of nursing that is good enough for the provision of care to the patient and their families. Their skills and practices are restricted; they only learn skills that are required to provide patient care.
ASSOCIATE DEGREE VERSUS BACCALAUREATE DEGREE NURSES
The baccalaureate program covers in details the courses taught at both the diploma and associate degree levels, which includes nursing research, nursing management, public health and the humanities. The extra coursework at the baccalaureate level enable the students develop professionally and prepare them for an extensive level of practice that will help the student have a better understanding of the issues affecting the patients [ANA2012]
The degree holders nurses are adequately prepared to face todays challenges, they are vested with leadership, case management and critical thinking skill which allows or enables them to practice in a varieties of setting.
The institute of Medicine [IOM] in 2010 made a call for nurses to further their education, with the goal of having 80% of nurses with baccalaureate degree in the workforce, it states that higher nursing degree provide a great benefit to the patient, communities and also the employer. Nurses have to obtain a higher level of education so as to meet up with the changing health care system and patients needs.
The Organization of nurse executive [AONE] Requested all nurses to further their to the baccalaureate level, so that they could be prepared adequately for their changing rule, which will also help to improve patient safety and provide enhance nursing
