In many aspects of our lives we feel the need to be appreciated for the things that we do (Fisher 2012). Some of us desire this feeling so much that we become consumed by it. Greek mythology tells us of a story regarding Narcissus, who was so vain that it caused him to fall in love with his self or his image. From this story we derive the personality characteristic known as narcissism. According to Robins & Judge (2009, p.75) “the behavioral component of an attitude refers to an intention to behave in a certain way towards someone or something.” This concept of behavioral component can be intertwined with a person’s feelings in regard to job satisfaction or how a person may feel about their job. Some individuals can self-motivate without any accolades or acknowledgements from their leader, however others may thrive from psychological empowerment to define the meaningfulness of their job. Accolades could simply be provided through inclusion as a leader makes his employees feel as though their work is valuable for success (Robins & Judge 2009, p.79).
