When dealing with a negative affect of drug manufacturs, misleading with poor communication and low standards of ethics; these companies make a miss-communication method with either the doctor/patient. A drug manufacturing company needs to step back and look at the problems of lack of communication and fix standard ethics. This simply can be resolved with the sales rep and administrative systems. The sales rep is responsible for giving the doctor the warnings of side effects; the doctor is responsible for giving the patient the warning of side effects. In Late 2000, FDA approved regulations to make side effect warnings on new prescription drugs, easier to see for the busy physician. This will make it a lot more effective for the physician to take a little bit of his/her time to look at the labels of what they are prescribing the patient. This also helps the drug manufacturing company so they do not get the full blame of side effects of the drug. “Hoping to keep doctors from prescribing the wrong drug for the wrong patient, the government announced Thursday that it would overhaul the fine-print drug warnings doctors are supposed to read before prescribing potentially deadly medication. Admitting that too few doctors even read vital drug warnings, the Food and Drug Administration said the change will let busy physicians spot in 30 seconds a medicine's biggest danger. “
"Laws in all three countries require sales representatives to provide information on harm as well as benefits," lead author Barbara Mintzes, of the University of British Columbia, said in a university news release. "But no one is monitoring these visits and there are next to no sanctions for misleading or inaccurate promotion." Serious risks were mentioned in only 6 percent of the promotions, even though 57 percent of the medicines involved in these visits came with U.S. Food and Drug Administration "black box" or Health Canada boxed warnings, which are the strongest types of drug warnings in the two countries (Preidt).”
When looking at disadvantages for this certain scenario, the public figure could be played out as a “drug abuser” of some sort and was just given the drugs from the doctor to take like many celebrities have been in the past. So all the heat could be put on the doctor can turn around and blame the drug manufacturing company for this miss-communication between the two parties. So there can be a big lawsuit against the company, so my job as a communication coordinator could come in jeopardy because my lower employees did not fulfill their job duties with communication to the 3rd party. Which I am required to oversee and make sure they fulfill their job properly. Seems like a big chain reaction affect all the way to the heart of my company.
