Ethics within n business can be linked to the founders, and their overall objective is the framework for ethics. Structural and Organizational Ethics can be measured with a variety of models such as; Six Sigma and The Bottom Line.
“Six Sigma is a method that provides organizations tools to improve the capability of their business processes. This increase in performance and decrease in process variation lead to defect reduction and improvement in profits, employee morale, and quality of products or services” (Kubiak, pg 6-7). “The TBL is an accounting framework that incorporates three dimensions of performance: social, environmental and financial. This differs from traditional reporting frameworks as it includes ecological (or environmental) and social measures that can be difficult to assign appropriate means of measurement. The TBL dimensions are also commonly called the three Ps: people, planet and profits”(Savitz). Six Sigma can be found at a business that focuses on process versus product, AT&T Inc exemplifies such. AT&T Inc is required to have a code of ethics because it deals not only with customers but investors as well. In accordance with the requirements of the Securities and Exchange Commission and the New York Stock Exchange, the Board of Directors of AT&T Inc. designed a code of ethics that promotes positive business practices. A code of ethics holds the organization as a whole responsible for their actions, and addresses ways in which business is to be conducted. AT&T Inc. is a telecommunication corporation and are responsible for providing its customers with effective ways to communicate from cell phones to wi-fi. The government has a set of guidelines in which telecommunication organizations must follow from privacy protection to its reporting of suspicious activity.
The elements of effective business ethics system found at AT&T Inc. are to encourage honest and ethical conduct which includes fair dealing and the ethical handling of conflicts of interest; promote full,fair, accurate, and timely disclosure; remain within the laws and guidelines set in place by the government; deter wrongdoing, promote honesty and integrity and a diverse work environment. The company's code of ethics minimizes risk because it has a code of ethic set in place in which all employees and investors are required to adhere to at all time. AT&T Inc. is out to not only make a profit but to provide the highest level of quality customer service. AT&T Inc. also takes into consideration the SOX Act when doing business deals and taking on new investors. Being able to provide federal regulators with information about the corporations financial matters is also crucial in their maintaining a positive reputation.
