Catholic Vs Christians Essay

2364 words - 10 pages

Christianity is a practiced religion following the teachings of Jesus Christ, which started around 1 AD, and grew stronger after 3 AD when Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross by the Pharisees, Jewish religious leaders, and the Roman government for what the Jewish leaders said was blasphemy of the Jewish belief that Christ Jesus was calling himself the Son of God. The strength of this religion goes by what Jesus Christ said he would do when he was put to death. He proclaimed that after three days he would rise from his tomb, and on the third day he did just that according to scriptures in ...view middle of the document...

According to the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible, Judaism started with a covenant that God made with a man we all know as Abraham. He is referred to in the Jewish belief as Father Abraham, the beginning of the Jewish faith. God instructed Abram, which was his name before the covenant was fulfilled, to leave his father and home in Ur and take his wife Sari, whose name would later change to Sarah after the covenant was fulfilled, and go into the land of Canaan valley of the Canaanites there God would make him a mighty nation were his children would be many as the blades of the grass. What this covenant turned out to be would later become the Nation of Israel. God also said that who so ever blessed Abram, that God would also bless them. This made Abram a much respected man because who ever came into contact with Abram, knew the God of heaven and earth was with him. The covenant that God made with Abram was to give him children. See Abram was fatherless because Sari was barren and could not bear children. In those days, men and women lived well past 100 years of age, and a certain age made it difficult for women to have children. At the age of 100 years Abram was blessed just as God had promised with Sari giving birth to Isaac, a son.

God then tested Abraham’s faith in him by telling Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. But, before Abraham was to stab Isaac, God stopped him and was pleased that Abraham was truly in belief of God and trusted God enough to sacrifice his only son. A similar sacrifice will be done years from this one, that sacrifice will change the world. Abraham, after the death of Sarah would go on to have many children before he died at the age of 175 years of age, but Isaac would inherit all of Abrahams wealth and land to which he would pass it on to his descendants. One of Isaac’s sons, Jacob, would later actually be called Israel because of a wrestling match between he and an angel from God by the river where he was blessed for his struggles with man and the angel. This is the real birth of Israel. After many, many years of prosperity, Isaac had a son named Joseph, who was born to Isaac late in his years, or as we refer to as the baby of the family. Joseph was special, and could interpret dreams. Joseph was so hated by his brothers that they sold him into slavery, not knowing by doing so would create such a travesty to Israel that slavery would be for Israel the way of life for the next 400 years. Then came a man called Moses, who by Gods commandment would secure the release of the Jews from their bonds of slavery from the Egyptians, who placed the Jews in slavery because they grew so much the Egyptians were afraid they would be the ones enslaved to the Jews. After wondering the dessert for 40 years they finally settled back in the land of Canaan, land of Abraham where they are to this day. Judaism is the true religion of the Old Testament and Torah. After years of rebellions against God and God turning his...
