Cat In The Rain Essay

913 words - 4 pages

Ernest Miller Hemingway was an American journalist and author. His writing style was very different from others because he didnt use that much adverbs/ adjectives or didnt really descriped the characters in his stories but let them speak through their actions. His language was really simple so averyone could understand.
However, he used the ”Iceberg theory” which means that the surface of the story is simple, but below the surface is the structure more complex.
He had a high degree of detail in description of places/things and his typically themes in his stories were love, war, loss, wildness etc..

It’s like she is just a girl but wants to be an adult. So, her reaction is childish, but she kind of thinks in a grown-up way. As an adult, she wants to protect the cat.
Her husband treats her like a cild, actually. When she is just about to go out he says: ”Dont get wet”.
When she is downstaries she sees the hotel-keeper, ”The wife liked him. (…..), She liked the way he wanted to serve her.” She very likes this man, cause he is very sweet to her and treats her that way that she wants. Like an adult. And he treats her the way she wants her husband to treat her. She uses the word ”old” several times and that shows us that she is kind of a little girl who admires him cause he is big, old, kind and a real man.
When she sees that the cat is gone she goes back to her room. ”I wanted it so much. I wanted that poor kitty- it isnt any fun to be a poor kitty out in the rain”. She is very dissapointed and very sad, because she needed to grow up and the cat was her help. But again George seems not to be interested at all. It’s like he is ignoring a child. And this shows us the main problem in this relationship is that George is an adult while the American wife still is a girl. We can also see it in the way Hemingway has wrote the story. He calls her for ”The American wife” first, and then ”American girl” and at the very ending it changes to ”wife” again.
Then she sets in front of the...
