CULTURAL BACKGROUND

The term sociology first derived from the Greek word for the study of knowledge. Sociology is a social science view of society. Sociology emerged from enlightenment thought, shortly after the French Revolution, as a positivist science of society. Its origin owed to various key movements in the philosophy of science and the philosophy of knowledge. The neighbors turned out to be rather nice and friendly. My family and I saw our neighbors depart their residences dressed as what we thought were Kings and Queens. Later we found out their religion was called Pentecostal. Pentecostalism is an umbrella term that includes a wide range of different theologies and cultures. For example, many Pentecostals are Trinitarian and others are Nontrinitarian. Trinitarians are people whom believe in the doctrine of trinity. My siblings and I were taught the traditional religion for our culture was Baptist. We attended Sunday school and Morning Service every Sunday.  Baptists became the largest Christian community in many southern states, especially among the black population. The Baptist religion is a modification of the term Anabaptist which means rebaptizer. Baptists are a group of Christian denominations, churches, and individuals who subscribe to a theology of believer's baptism salvation through faith alone, Scripture alone as the rule of faith and practice, and the autonomy of the local church.
