It has come to my notice that you are interested to invest in Hydropower sector in Nepal. I can assure you that this sector will have a profound and long lasting impact on the socio-economic as well as political lives of the Nepalese people.I also received the information that you are much aware about the political crisis prevailing in our country.
A lack of political stability, good governance and law and order issues are important factors ...view middle of the document...
It is often quoted that the hydropower potential of Nepal is 83,000 MW. Despite this huge potential in hydropower, just over a 600 MW is currently produced. As a result, majority of the population has been forced to live with long hours of power-cuts throughout the year. The situation gets worse particularly in the dry seasons, where Nepalese had to face power cuts of up to 10-11 hours per day. Such long power cuts undoubtedly have a major impact on the socio-economic issues such as industrial development, employment creation, securing livelihood options and poverty alleviation in the country. But with a few big and several small hydroelectricity projects, it would be possible not only to lighten our homes and industries and create new employment opportunities, but also generate surplus electricity for export, and thereby, and together with export, significantly contribute to GDP.
Once the country enters into a stable political system with firm and good governance and various barriers for hydropower development are removed, there will be a rapid surge of hydropower development in Nepal. Hence, the future for hydropower development in Nepal is promising. As a whole, I hope you will take my suggestion into account before making any decision.
