Refugio de vida Silvestre

Caratasca

La gran laguna de Caratasca está ubicada al centro del complejo de lagunas, es de aguas salobres y está separada del mar por una faja angosta. La laguna mide 60 kilómetros de largo por 12 de ancho.

Tiene una extensión territorial de 48.58 km2, muy cerca del parque al noreste está ubicada otra área protegida llamada Refugio de Vida Silvestre Laguna de Guaimoreto y son lugares donde habitan muchas especies de flora y fauna en peligro de extinción. Las alturas del parque no sobrepasan los 1,300 m.s.n.m. las alturas mínimas comienzan desde los 160 m.s.n.m. La temperatura del parque es muy estable, generalmente se mantiene en 28 grados centígrados.

Parque Nacional Azul Meambar

El Parque Nacional Cerro Azul Meámbar está ubicado al sur de la ciudad de Santa Cruz de Yojoa. Al costado derecho del Lago de Yojoa, el parque esta zonificado en tres 1. Zona de Amortiguamiento 2. Zona Núcleo 3. Zona de Uso Especial. La Zona núcleo es la que tiene menor extensión territorial con 8.914 Km2, la zona de uso especial posee 91.235 Km2,y por último la zona de amortiguamiento quien posee la mayor extensión con 213.241 Km2.

Parque Nacional la Tigra

El Parque Nacional La Tigra está ubicado en el departamento de Francisco Morazán, aproximadamente a 15 kilómetros al noreste de Tegucigalpa, es de fácil acceso ya que existe una carretera de tierra que lleva hasta las oficinas de la Organización AMITIGRA.

Capiro y calentura

El Parque Nacional Capiro Calentura está ubicado al lado sur de la ciudad de Trujillo, departamento de Colón. El área de este Parque Nacional es aproximadamente 62 km2 con una zona núcleo de 49.4 km2. El punto mas alto del cerro calentura es 1,235mts sobre el nivel del mar y tiene una vista impresionante sobre la bahia de Trujillo donde se puede observar la ciudad de Trujillo, la laguna de guaymoreto, punta castilla, punta betulia y las comunidades garifunas de San Antonio y Santa Fe.

Parques nacionales marinas

PUNTA SAL

Situado al borde de TELA, este parque fue rebautizado parque nacional Jeannette KAWAS, que fue una militante ecológica que luchó por la preservación de este parque contra inversionistas inmobiliarios y fue asignada.
Actualmente la ley protege este parque de una superficie de 500
Km2, con sus diferentes ecosistemas como el bosque húmedo tropical, sus manglares, ríos, lagunas, canales y arrecifes.

Cayos Cochinos

Las islas son un área marina protegida y son administradas por el hondureño Coral Reel Fundación. El arrecife de coral en este caso es parte del mundo el segundo arrecife de coral más grande del mundo, conocido como el mesoamericano Barrera de Coral. Hay una estación de investigación científica en Cayo Menor, el menor de las dos islas principales en el sistema.
