In the recent years there has been a significant rise in people's concern for the environment. All of us play a part in the destruction of our planet, but we are often unaware of how much we affect it. There is no part of the earth that does not remain affected by our actions. Our actions are now threatening the health of our planet, the land we live and work on, the water supply, the ozone layer, the animal species as well as the health of our species. Some would say that the problem is too great and what can be done at this time. Well, we can first remember and believe that we can make a difference. According to The Guardian, more than 3,000 children have been diagnosed with unsafe levels of lead in their blood, due to the series of heavy metal contamination outbreaks near the factories.
Another accusation the company was face with was the destruction that is being done by the tin mining. Tin being a major components in the smart phones has gain its popularity and not only Apple, but many other tech companies are in the same pursuit. Besides creating a destruction to the environment, many workers who are digging for tin in mud and are in danger of mud slides.
Apple is on its way towards sustainability, but more improvement is needed. The company gets positive feedback for its efforts regarding labor conditions, however, there clearly is still a long way to go. Apple communicates a commitment to reduce carbon emissions in the future by stating the goal to power all Apple facilities by renewable energy. However, when this goal is to be accomplished no one seems to really know. Also, Apple needs to be transparent about recycling in its production and increase the life-cycle of its products.
